Music-lovers are counting down for Roger Waters' legendary show “The Wall,” which will rock İstanbul on Sunday night at the İTÜ Arena on İstanbul Technical University (İTÜ) premises.
The Pink Floyd co-founder is bringing the show to the city as part of his “The Wall” world tour. The show comes seven years after Waters' last visit to the city when he performed a concert at the Kuruçeşme Arena in 2006 summer as part of his “Dark Side of the Moon” tour.
Known for its anti-war messages, the two-hour concert presents huge projected visual images of people killed in wars and protests, plus those who changed the course of history. The photo montage during the concert will also feature influential figures from Turkey who were assassinated or executed, such as Turkey's ninth prime minister, Adnan Menderes, who was executed by hanging on Sept. 17, 1961, following the 1960 coup d'état; journalist-columnist Uğur Mumcu, who was assassinated on Jan. 24, 1993 by a car bomb in front of his house in Ankara; and Turkish-Armenian journalist Hrant Dink, who was assassinated on Jan. 19, 2007, by being shot twice in the head in front of the Agos newspaper in İstanbul.
The 69-year-old Waters embarked on this latest “The Wall” tour in September 2010 in the US. His stage show sees a giant wall slowly rise between the 12-man band and the audience as Waters performs his autobiographical songs of disillusionment, including Pink Floyd's biggest hit, “Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2.” Tickets for the İstanbul show are available at www.biletix.com.
