Roger Waters will pay tribute to influential figures from Turkey who were assassinated or executed in his upcoming “The Wall” concert in İstanbul on Aug. 4, the İhlas news agency reported over the weekend.
The pictures of Turkey's ninth Prime Minister Adnan Menderes, who was executed by hanging on Sept. 17, 1961 by the military junta following the 1960 coup d'état; journalist-columnist Uğur Mumcu, who was assassinated on Jan. 24, 1993 with a car bomb in front of his house in Ankara; and Turkish-Armenian journalist Hrant Dink, who was assassinated on Jan. 19, 2007 by being shot twice in the head in front of the Agos newspaper in İstanbul, will be reflected on the huge wall on the stage during Waters' concert, which will mark the first time the Pink Floyd co-founder will be performing in Turkey.
Waters' “The Wall” stage show is known for its emphasis on anti-war and peace messages, presenting photos of people who are killed in wars and protests in addition to others who changed the flow of history. The two-hour concert is also regarded as a journey through death, despair and destruction.
